ABOUT THE REGION
The surroundings of Svitavy were originally forested by deep wood where, here and there, a small settlement arose. Villages around Svitavy conceal treasures of national culture. The village of Koclíøov is known for its Redemptorist College which was the first one of this order in Bohemia. Koclíøov’s cemetery is graced by a fascinating Route of the Cross with the chapel of the God’s Grave. The belfry in Kamenná Horka from the 15th century represents a jewel of architecture. To the south of Svitavy - in the river Svitava’s valley - there lies Bøezová nad Svitavou. The area is veiled by numerous legends about hidden treasures, elves and witches. Here is the very place where it is possible to meet such names as Devil’s Holes or Devil’s Valley. It is a land of wild beauties and natural riches.
The Svitavsko micro-region is situated in the central part of the district of Svitavy. It belongs to areas with a lower-than-average population of the Czech Republic and therefore it is sought by tourists who long for trips and regeneration of strength in a peaceful and so far ecologically balanced land. The ground of the micro-region belongs to the basin of the river Svitava and it occupies an area of nearly 230 square km where almost 25 thousand people live in two towns and fourteen villages. The micro-region has been formed as a natural whole internally united especially geographically, with infrastructure and even with economic links.
